BACKGROUND

Painting is my passion — my place of ultimate happiness. My work is an emotional response to what I observe in nature — not just what I see, but what I feel about what I am seeing. Our natural world is never stiff and static; my paintings express movement and energy. When I paint, I am transferring the spirit of what I’ve experienced outdoors right onto the paper.

My work complements both contemporary and traditional spaces, serving as a daily reminder of the beauty, diversity, and timelessness of nature. Ultimately, my paintings are designed to bring you joy!

PROCESS

Watercolor paint encourages spontaneity and experimentation. It is naturally expressive — the process is (literally) about “going with the flow” and working in an intuitive way. It’s the perfect medium for me to express fleeting moments of nature: the whooshing of soft grasses swaying in the breeze, little glittery bits of dappled sunlight, or the mystery of ethereal spaces that blend into one another.

I’m located in the Pacific Northwest, which has a surprisingly wide array of climate zones and habitats that provide a steady stream of inspiration. My creative process syncs with the seasons, offering changing subject matter and color palettes. On my various walkabouts, I might gather plants and other natural materials for inspiration, or occasionally, to print from. When I have a visceral response to something I’m seeing, I take quick photos to serve as an inspirational jumping off point for when I’m back at my studio. The combinations are endless, as nature fosters abundant creativity in how it reveals itself at different times of the year.

When I’m painting, I’m in a highly-attuned place where time stands still. I often paint for huge stretches of time as I lose myself in this state of bliss and exploration. â€‹ (To read more about my artistic inspirations and how they feed my work, see this blog post.)

VIEWPOINT

It’s been said that art is an antidote to everyday life; I want my clients to feel uplifted every time they look at their chosen painting. Whether you prefer serene art that makes you feel quiet and calm, something that is more lively and energizing — or somewhere in between — I hope you’ll find something you love and want to acquire from my PORTFOLIOS section.

Water. Pigment. Paper. Plus my response to the magic of Mother Nature...

Ali Amato had a 35-year career as an art director and designer, winning several awards for her advertising campaigns. She is also a gifted intuitive and empath who created a successful business helping people with their pets. She has created and exhibited original “wearable art” pieces and also developed her own curriculum for teaching “The Artist’s Way” concepts to blocked creatives. Ali's current course is designed to help de-mystify watercolor painting and shorten the learning curve for beginning artists. She lives outside of Seattle, working in a home studio in a wooded area overlooking a large lake and its wetlands — a stimulating location that provides much of her artistic inspiration.
